What is the CSRD?

Introducing the CSRD

The EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires large companies with an EU presence to report ESG risks and opportunities alongside their financial statements. The first reports, covering fiscal year 2024, were published in 2025.

This directive sets a new standard for the breadth and depth of sustainability reporting, requiring companies to go beyond carbon emissions and report on waste, pollution, water, and biodiversity.

Who needs to report?

Around 7,000 companies will need to disclose to the CSRD standards, including US companies with a significant European presence.

After the EU's 2026 Omnibus amendments, the directive applies to companies with more than 1,000 employees and over €450 million in turnover, with first reports due for fiscal year 2027. Companies should start preparing now.

Checklist of companies required to report under the CSRD: large EU companies with more than 1,000 employees and over €450 million in net turnover, EU parent companies exceeding the same thresholds on a consolidated basis, and non-EU parent companies with over €450 million in EU turnover and a large EU subsidiary or branch.
