Report Locking
Report locking is a platform feature that creates a frozen, audit-ready snapshot of an emissions inventory at a specific point in time, preserving the exact data state for disclosure and audit purposes.
When an emissions inventory is complete and ready for disclosure, report locking saves a snapshot of the report’s activity data exactly as it stands. Once locked, the report does not automatically change if underlying data is updated later.
If data changes after a report is locked, the platform surfaces notifications showing what changed and the impact on emissions by category. Users can accept updates to create a new snapshot, replacing the previous locked state with updated figures. Multiple snapshots can be created for the same report, and the full snapshot history remains visible.
Only Super Admin users can close or update a locked report. Locked reports can be exported for audit submissions, board presentations, or external disclosure. Report locking is an enterprise-grade control that ensures auditors and stakeholders see exactly what was disclosed, with no risk of numbers shifting after submission.
Frequently asked questions
Can I update a locked report? +
Yes. If underlying data changes after locking, Gravity shows what changed and the impact. You can accept updates to create a new snapshot. The previous snapshot is preserved in the history so you have a complete audit trail.

Carbon Accounting
Carbon accounting is the systematic process of measuring, recording, and reporting the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by an organization, product, or activity. It follows standardized methodologies — most commonly the GHG Protocol — to quantify emissions across Scope 1 (direct), Scope 2 (purchased energy), and Scope 3 (value chain) categories, producing an auditable inventory that underpins disclosure, reduction planning, and regulatory compliance.
GHG Protocol
The GHG Protocol is the world's most widely used greenhouse gas accounting standard. Developed by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), it provides frameworks for organizations, cities, and countries to measure and manage their emissions across three scopes.
